How to add a link in bio on Instagram

Add up to five links to your Instagram profile from the app, which one to put first, and where else a link can be tapped on Instagram.

Checked on

Open your profile in the Instagram app, tap Edit profile, then Links, then Add link. Enter the address and a title and tap Done. Without a subscription you can add up to five links.

The steps below were checked against Meta's own help centre on 6 November 2026.

Before you start

Copy the full address of the page you want people to land on, starting with https. Open it once on your phone to check it loads and looks right on a small screen, because that's where almost every tap from Instagram will happen.

Then decide which link goes first. It should be the thing you most want people to do this week: the new single, the booking page, today's menu.

Steps

  1. Tap Profile or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
  2. Tap Edit profile.
  3. Tap Links.
  4. Tap Add link.
  5. Enter the address and a Title. The title shows in place of the address, so "Book a table" beats "opentable.co.uk/r/…".
  6. Tap Done, then go back to your profile and tap the link to test it.

To add more, repeat steps 3 to 6. Meta's help centre says you can add up to five links without a subscription. With a Meta One subscription you can add up to 20, each with an image and a title, on a link page with its own address. Meta says teens can't use that link page.

Instagram has a separate help article for adding your Facebook profile or Page to your Instagram profile.

Stories. Every account can add a Link sticker to a story, apart from new accounts and accounts that repeatedly break Instagram's rules, according to Instagram's announcement from October 2021:

  1. Capture or upload something to your story.
  2. Choose the sticker tool from the top bar.
  3. Tap the Link sticker, add your link and tap Done.
  4. Place the sticker on your story. Tap it to see colour options.

A story disappears after 24 hours unless you save it to a Highlight, so a "Links" Highlight on your profile is a second home for your most useful links.

Posts and reels. Meta's help centre says links on posts and reels are for eligible public accounts with a Meta One subscription, with a monthly allowance by plan, and that you can't edit a link after you've shared the post.

Your bio text. An address typed into the bio box stays plain text. Use the Links field to make it tappable.

Five links covers a lot of people. A plumber with a website, a quote form and a WhatsApp number has room to spare.

It gets tight when you have more going on, or when it changes every week. A band with a new single, a tour, merch and a mailing list fills five slots by Tuesday and needs to edit them again by Friday. That's when one link to a link in bio page earns its place: a single address in Instagram, and a page behind it that holds as many links as you like.

Common problems

The link isn't tappable. You've probably typed it into the bio text. Delete it there and add it under Links.

The Links option is missing. Update the app. If it still isn't there, try on another phone with the same account to rule out an old version.

You changed the link and people still see the old one. Close and reopen the app, then check from a friend's phone.

If your five slots keep filling up, a Zest page is free for one page with no card, and it's the one address you'd put first.
